Ultrasound is used to detect the occurrence of venous insufficiency and venous thrombosis (clots).
The examination is painless, safe and without side effects.
You take off your shoes, trousers or skirt and socks before the examination.
The examination is performed standing on stairs, so it is not performed on patients who are unable to stand due to their medical condition. You squeeze your abdomen during the examination as you do when you go to the toilet.
The examination can be used to detect possible venous blockages (presence of clots – venous thrombosis), the presence of venous insufficiency, the success of thrombosis treatment and the presence of possible sequelae of a previous venous thrombosis.
The ultrasound examination takes 5–20 minutes, depending on the extent of the disease.
No special preparation is needed for the examination; we recommend wearing shorts (briefs) only for feeling more comfortable.
